HISTORY...... So far, So good!
Cameron Mason was inspired to take up cycling by his older cousin, who competed in off-road mountain bike races. These youth races, held in Scotland alongside elite events featuring (inter)national riders, motivated Mason to start racing at the age of seven. Before long, his family was actively participating in both the Scottish and British cross circuits.
In his youth, Mason would repair damaged bicycles for stunts and jumps. He spent his post-school hours riding until the evening faded to black, honing his impressive technique. During his teenage years, his physical growth and net worth temporarily plateaued, making technique and tactics even more crucial in competitions.
Following a sudden growth spurt, Mason returned to form, securing a bronze medal at the British Junior Mountain Bike Championships (XCO). Eager to progress, he traveled with his father to continental races, a journey of eight hours to the Channel Tunnel, followed by an additional four to reach the racing venue.
Towards the end of 2019, Cameron began racing for the British squad Trinity Racing, which is centered around U20 world champion Tom Pidcock. Over the following two seasons, he spent four months in Flanders with the team. Living and training daily with Pidcock in the same house, Cameron found tranquility and a sharpened professional focus.
The year 2020 proved to be disastrous due to a collarbone fracture, and early 2021 brought another setback with a complex elbow fracture. Consequently, he was sidelined from cycling for a period, leading to a loss of muscle mass in his arm and shoulder. However, his dedication to extensive strength training became the cornerstone of his successful comeback in the subsequent season.
At the Overijse World Cup towards the end of 2021, Mason secured a top 10 spot among elite riders and contended with Pim Ronhaar for victory in the Koppenberg espoirs race. He triumphed in three U22 races that year, including a World Cup event in Dendermonde. Mason placed sixth at the European Cyclo-cross Championships and was runner-up to Thomas Mein at the British Elite Riders' Championships.
During the 2022-2023 season, Mason made a name for himself from the Christmas period onwards with top ten finishes in elite races and the world championship, along with victories in the British championship. In late April 2023, he competed in the UCI Gravel World Series, clinching second place in Valkenburg at the Gravel Fondo Limburg and third in Spain at La Indomable.
In the 2023-2024 season, Cameron joined the Cyclocross Reds and competed on the road with the Alpecin-Deceuninck Development Team. During the European Cyclo-cross Championships in November, Cameron earned the distinction of being the first elite men's medallist not originating from Belgium or the Netherlands.
