JAARMARKTCROSS NIEL 11/11/2024

Today, november 11, 2024 the annual market cross took place in Niel (Belgium) , part of the Telenet Superprestige. 

The race, which started under a beautiful autumn sun, was dominated from the start by Laurens Sweeck and he never relinquished his leading position.

Cameron rode a solid race  on a beautiful but difficult course, especially when it started to rain heavily in the penultimate lap.. He eventually crossed the line in 18th place.

This was his reaction on his instagramprofile after the cross;

"Place 18 today. Nothing special to write home about but just happy to be getting solid races under my belt. More work and time needed to get back to where i want to be. 

But enjoying racing my bike. Thank everyone for the support today, really appreciate it.

Indeed, he rode a very solid race today and you could really see that he had a better feeling on the bike. It was nice to be there and we are already looking forward to the next cross.

One thing we can say, he works hard and we remain proud  and root for him, whatever the result!

Vandaag, de 11e november 2024 vond in Niel de Jaarmarktcross plaats, onderdeel van de Telenet Superprestige.

De cross , die startte onder een mooi herfstzonnetje werd vanaf de start gedomineerd door Laurens Sweeck die meteen de leiding nam en de hele cross standhield

Cameron reed een solide koers op dit mooie maar niet te onderschatten parcours. zeker toen het in de voorlaatste ronde serieus begon te regenen. Uiteindelijk behaalde Cameron een 18e plaats. Na de cross was dit zijn reactie op zijn instagramprofiel:

"18e plaats vandaag. Niets bijzonders om over naar huis te schrijven, maar gewoon blij dat ik solide races kan rijden. Er is meer werk en tijd nodig om terug te komen waar ik wil zijn. Maar ik geniet van het racen met m'n fiets. Bedankt iedereen voor jullie aanmoedigingen vandaag, ik waardeer dit echt"

Inderdaad hij heeft vandaag  in mijn ogen een heel solide wedstrijd gereden en hij straalde het ook uit, alsof hij met een beter gevoel op de fiets zat dan voorheen dit seizoen. Het was fijn aanwezig te zijn vandaag en we kijken al uit naar zijn volgende cross!

één ding is zeker, hij werkt hard  en we blijven trots op hem, Wat het resultaat ook mag zijn, we blijven trouwe supporters!

AARDBEIENCROSS MERKSPLAS 16/11/2024

This weekend, our first stop was at Merksplas for the Aardbeiencross (Strawberry Cross) on Saturday. Following an 80-minute drive, we found parking in a meadow close to the course. The meadow appeared rather swampy, leading us to anticipate a challenging and muddy course ahead.

Appearances were deceptive, as the women's cross revealed that the elite men's race would also be exceptionally swift.

At 3:10 pm, the race commenced for the 41 contenders, with the frontrunners quickly taking the lead. Cameron, starting from the second row, had a promising beginning. However, due to the blistering pace of the course and the caliber of competitors ahead, he maintained a position near 23rd throughout the race.

The excitement of the race persisted until the final moments, with a lead group of seven to ten riders vying for the top spot throughout. By the last lap, only seven contenders were left competing for the overall win. Ultimately, Laurens Sweeck clinched the victory—his second of the week—followed by Toon Aerts and Lars van der Haar. Cameron finished in 24th place, trailing Laurens by 2 minutes and 24 seconds.

It is evident that Cameron is still in pursuit of his peak form and the level he achieved last year. However, such progress cannot be rushed, and we are confident that it is only a matter of time. Take Laurens as an example; he didn't secure a single cyclocross victory last year, yet this season, he has already claimed three wins to his name.

Als eerste van twee crossen dit weekend, hielden we deze zaterdag halt in Merksplas voor de aardbeiencross. Na een 80tal minuten gereden te hebben konden we de auto parkeren in een weiland nabij het parcours. Dat weiland zag er best wel zompig uit waardoor  we ervan uitgingen dat het best wel eens best een zwaar en modderig parcour kon zijn!

Maar niets was wat het leek want tijdens de cross van de dames konden we vaststellen dat het ook voor de elite mannen een supersnelle cross ging worden.

Om 15u10 sprongen de lichten op groen voor de 41 deelnemers en meteen zaten de favorieten voorop! Ook Cameron had vanop de tweede startrij een goede start. toch, mede door het supersnelle parcours en de vele straffe namen voorop, reed hij daarna de hele wedstrijd rond de 23ste plaats. 

De wedstrijd zelf bleef spannend tot op het einde, met een kopgroep van 7 tot 10 renners tijdens de hele cross, totdat in de laatste ronde er nog zeven kandidaten in de running bleven voor de eindoverwinning. Uiteindelijk won Laurens Sweeck (zijn tweede deze week) voor Toon Aerts en Lars van der Haar. Onze Cameron strandde uiteindelijk op de 24e plaats in een tijd van 2.24 na Laurens.

Het is duidelijk dat Cameron nog een beetje zoekende is naar zijn beste benen en het niveau van vorig jaar. Maar zoiets kan je natuurlijk niet forceren en we zijn ervan overtuigd dat gewoon een kwestie van tijd is. (Zie Laurens, vorig jaar won hij geen enkele cross, en dit seizoen heeft hij er al drie op zijn palmares.)

FLANDRIENCROSS HAMME 17/11/2024

Departing from Limburg for our weekend's second cyclocross event, the rain persisted, yet as we reached Hamme, the skies cleared and sunshine greeted us. It promised to be a splendid afternoon in many respects, though that was beyond our knowledge then.

Securing a prime viewing spot amidst the mud and spectators along the track, we witnessed an exhilarating women's race. Then, at 3 pm, it was the elite men's turn to battle it out in the subsequent round of the X2O Bathroom Trophy.

At the start, 38 competitors lined up, featuring nearly all the renowned names in the field.

From our vantage point near the start, we observed Cameron kicking off strongly, quickly securing the eleventh position! The pace was swift, and shortly thereafter, the announcer declared that a total of 11 laps were to be completed, a rare occurrence in such races.

Seeing him secure the eleventh spot was heartening, and we remained hopeful that he would hold onto this rank, providing him with a substantial uplift for the upcoming races!

Initially, a quartet of riders took the lead and swiftly established a small gap. Meanwhile, Cameron, in the pursuit group, was methodically advancing positions. With each pass, his enjoyment and confidence in his cycling performance were evident.

By the final lap, we were certain he would hold his ground, and ultimately, he earned a well-deserved seventh place, matching his seventh-place finish at Hamme in January earlier this year. Niels Vandeputte was the first to cross the finish line, claiming his inaugural victory in a General Classification race.

It was a very emotional cross experience personally.

The cross season's initial month and a half posed personal challenges for Cameron, exacerbated by illness. Following a stellar previous season, his occasional doubts were to be expected. Hence, his achievement of seventh place today is akin to a triumph, affirming that all will be well in the end—a sentiment we've always held—and our pride in him is indeed well-deserved!

Toen we vanuit Limburg vertrokken voor onze tweede veldrit van het weekend, regende het nog, maar al snel trok de lucht open en bij aankomst in Hamme scheen de zon al door. Het zag ernaar uit dat het een prachtige middag zou worden, op meer dan één manier, maar dat konden we toen nog niet weten.

Nadat we een goed plekje hadden gevonden door de modder langs het parcours en de menigte, en na genoten te hebben van een spannende dameswedstrijd, was het om 15 uur tijd voor de elite mannen om te strijden in de volgende ronde van de X2O Badkamertrofee.

Aan de startlijn stonden 38 deelnemers, met bijna alle bekende namen op de lijst.

Vanaf onze plek dichtbij de start zagen we dat Cameron weer sterk begon en al snel bevestigde hij dit met een elfde plaats! Het was opnieuw een zeer snelle race, en niet veel later kondigde de omroeper aan dat er in totaal 11 rondes gereden moesten worden, wat zelden gebeurt.

Het was een fijn gevoel om hem op die elfde plaats te zien, en we hoopten dat hij deze positie kon behouden, wat hem een positieve boost zou geven voor de toekomstige races!

Aanvankelijk was er een kopgroep van vier renners die snel een voorsprong van enkele seconden opbouwden, maar in de achtervolgende groep maakte Cameron gestaag plaatsen goed. Elke keer dat hij voorbijkwam, was het duidelijk dat hij genoot en geloofde in zijn prestatie op de fiets.

Tegen de laatste ronde waren we ervan overtuigd dat hij zijn positie niet meer zou afstaan, en uiteindelijk behaalde hij verdiend de zevende plaats! Niels Vandeputte bereikte als eerste de finishlijn, waarmee hij zijn eerste zege in een klassementscross veiligstelde.

Het was persoonlijk een zeer emotionele crosservaring. De eerste anderhalve maand van het crossseizoen waren voor Cameron niet eenvoudig, mede door ziekte.

Na een uitstekend seizoen vorig jaar, is het begrijpelijk dat hij soms twijfelde, wat volkomen normaal is. Daarom voelt zijn zevende plaats vandaag als een overwinning! Het is een bevestiging dat alles uiteindelijk goed komt (iets waar wij natuurlijk nooit aan getwijfeld hebben), en we zijn met recht trots op hem!

URBAN CROSS KORTRIJK 23/11/2024

After a two-hour drive, thankfully free of traffic jams, we reached the center of Kortrijk for the Urban Cross, a segment of the "Exact" cross-series. The course, uniquely situated in the city center and divided by a canal with two bridges, stands out from the typical Belgian courses.

Following Fem van Empel's victory in the women's race, the elite men were up next to compete for the win at 3 p.m. Fifty-nine competitors lined up at the start, with Cameron in pole position, bearing the number 8. Despite some notable absences, the old adage holds true: those not present are at a loss!

 

Cameron had a slower start, finishing the first lap in fourteenth place. Meanwhile, Ferdinande picked up the pace at the front, followed closely by Iserbyt, N.Vandeputte, and Vanthourenhout. 

The race was swift, spanning nine laps in total. Compounding the challenge was an icy wind. Yet, Cameron, true to form, steadily advanced position by position with each lap, securing eighth place before the final lap commenced.

At the forefront, Eli Iserbyt had seized the lead and maintained it until the end. Cameron also secured his eighth-place position at the finish line.

We're thrilled with his second top-10 finish in a single week! I believe he's quite pleased with it as well!

 

I want to express my admiration for all the cyclocross riders who compete in such challenging weather conditions!

Following a brief conversation with Cameron, we hurried to the parking lot to begin our journey back to Limburg. Tomorrow brings another day and another race, the World Cup in Antwerp.

Na een rit van exact twee uurtjes, gelukkig zonder file, kwamen we aan in Kortrijk centrum, voor de Urban Cross, onderdeel van de "Exact" crossen. Een parcour midden in het centrum, gescheiden door een kanaal en over twee bruggen, totaal iets anders dan de meeste parcours hier in België. 

Nadat Fem van Empel de laureaat werd bij de dames was het om 15u de beurt aan de elite-mannen om te strijden voor de overwinning. In totaal stonden ze met 59 aan de start met Cameron op de eerste startlijn met het startnummer 8. Er ontbraken wel wat bekende namen, maar zoals het gezegde; de afwezigen hadden ongelijk!

Cameron had niet zo'n snelle start waardoor hij in de eerste ronde passeerde op de veertiende plaats. Voorin had Ferdinande het tempo opgevoerd met in zijn kielzog o.a. Iserbyt, N.Vandeputte en Vanthourenhout. 

Weeral was het een heel snelle cross, met in totaal negen rondes af te leggen. Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was stond er een ijzig koude wind. Toch wist Cameron, zoals we dat van hem gewoon zijn, ronde na ronde een plaatsje op te schuiven zodat hij voor aanvang van de laatste ronde op de achtste plaats reed. 

Voorin had ondertussen Eli Iserbyt de leiderspositie overgenomen en gaf die uiteindelijk ook niet meer uit handen. En ook Cameron wist zijn achtste plaats te bevestigen aan de eindmeet.

We zijn blij met zijn tweede top 10 plaats in één week tijd! En ik denk dat hij er zelf ook best tevreden mee is! 

Toch nog even mijn respect betuigen voor alle cyclocrossers die met deze weersomstandigheden hun sport beoefenen!

Na een korte babbel met Cameron, snel naar de parking om onze terugrit naar Limburg aan te vatten. Morgen een nieuwe dag en een nieuwe cross, de wereldbeker in Antwerpen.

SCHELDECROSS ANTWERPEN 24/11/24

Following the distant event in Kortrijk yesterday, today's focus shifted to the city of Antwerp, specifically to the "beach of Sint Anneke". Here, the first round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, the Scheldecross, unfolded.

Contrasting with yesterday's freezing temperatures, accentuated by strong winds, today felt like an early spring day, boasting temperatures around 17 degrees, despite the persistent wind.

 

At 3:10 PM, the starting lights flashed green, and the 52 competitors charged into the course.

Cameron, who began from the second row, had a slightly delayed start, which resulted in a 14th place position early on. Meanwhile, Laurens Sweeck surged ahead, setting a blistering pace at the front.

 

Over the course of eight laps, it was observed that Cameron lost a position on each lap, resulting in him being around twentieth place by the midpoint of the race. At the lead, the battle for podium positions remained undecided, but Eli managed to take the lead while Niels Vandeputte fell back after attempting to match Eli's pace.

Ultimately, Eli secured the victory and claimed the top spot in the World Cup standings. Cameron crossed the finish line in 25th place, trailing the leader by 3 minutes and 26 seconds.

 

Certainly, observing from the sidelines only offers a glimpse of the entire event, yet Cameron's facial expressions conveyed that he put forth his utmost effort; unfortunately, today was not his day.

On Instagram, he stated, "I didn't have the best feeling today. Nevertheless, I am content with the progress being made." We concur with his sentiment.

Na het verre Kortrijk gisteren was het vandaag in 't stad te doen! Namelijk op 't strand van Sint Anneke, waar de eerste manche plaatsvond van de UCI Wereldbeker cyclo-cross; de Scheldecross!

Daar waar het gisteren, mede door de felle wind, ijskoud aanvoelde was het vandaag bijna een lente dag met zo'n 17 graden, alhoewel de wind nog wel aanwezig was.

Om 15u10 sprongen de startlichten op groen en doken de 52 renners het "veld" in!

Cameron, startend vanop de tweede rij miste een beetje zijn start en belande zo op een 14e positie. Voorin nam Laurens Sweeck de leiding op zich met meteen een verschroeiend tempo! 

In een totaal van acht rondes merkten we dat Cameron iedere ronde een plaatsje moest prijsgeven waardoor hij half cross rond de twintigste plaats ons passeerde. Voorin lagen de podiumplaatsen nog open, toch Nam Eli de leiding over en Niels Vandeputte moest passen nadat hij een poging deed om Eli bij te benen. 

Uiteindelijk ging Eli met de zege aan de haal en word zo ook de leider in de Wereldbeker. Cameron finishte uiteindelijk op een 25ste plaats op 3:26 van de leider..

Natuurlijk, als je langs het parcours staat krijg je maar een kleine fractie mee van het  hele gebeuren, maar aan de mimiek op Cameron zijn gezicht zag je dat hij alles gaf wat hij kon, het was gewoon zijn dag niet vandaag! 

Op Instagram zei hij; "ik had vandaag niet het beste gevoel. Toch ben ik tevreden met de richting die het gaat." Daarin kunnen we hem alleen maar bijtreden!

DUBLIN World Cup 01/12/2024

 

At 14:40 local time, the 37 riders lined up for the start of the second round of the World Cup in Dublin, Ireland. By 3:40 pm local time, we were riveted to our screens, eagerly anticipating an exhilarating contest and rooting for Cameron to achieve an outstanding result!

Cameron began the race from the second row and was quickly forced to concede several positions, a common occurrence that usually doesn't cause concern as he is known to recover. However, a flat tire in the initial lap caused him to fall back to the 25th position.

 

From our viewpoint in front of the screen, the course's initial segment appeared quite dry, while the latter part, nearing the finish, seemed muddier. Yet, it remained swift and perilous, with the wind rendering it even drier and quicker throughout the race.

At the lead, Toon, Eli, Pim, Michael, and Felipe were ahead! Michael Boros lost his equilibrium on the beams, leading to a tumble that involved several riders, with Thibau Nys being the most affected. Luckily, Cameron navigated the obstacle smoothly, which allowed him to advance several positions.

 

Over the course of 8 laps, he advanced to the front and secured the 17th position by the 4th lap.

 

The race's lead was up for grabs until the final lap, with at least six racers vying for the win. Eli appeared poised for victory in the penultimate lap, but a few minor errors in the last lap allowed his teammate Michael to overtake him and claim the win. Toon Aerts followed closely for second place, while Felipe Orts Lloret just edged out Eli for the bronze.

Cameron ultimately secured the 15th position with a time of 1:42.

 

Afterwards he posted on instagram: "Frustrating one at Dublin WC. Puncture on lap one put me back in the pack. Then spent most of the race on my own chasing. I have some decent race pace right now wich is nice. Just not the best punch to get into that top 10."

"As always, amazing vibe and crowd. So many shouts. Thank you everyone! Off to Spain now"

Plaatselijke tijd 14u40 stonden de 37 renners aan de start voor de tweede manche van de Wereldbeker in Dublin, Ierland. En wij 15u40 plaatselijke tijd voor ons scherm gekluisterd, klaar voor wat hopelijk een spannende strijd zou worden en om te supporteren voor een mooie race voor Cameron met een mooi resultaat!

Cameron startte vanop de tweede startrij en moest meteen al wat plaatsjes prijsgeven, wat we wel vaker zien gebeuren maar waar we niet over panikeren omdat we weten dat hij die wel weer terug zal heroveren. Maar mede door een lekke band in de eerste ronde zakte hij terug naar een 25ste positie.

Vanuit ons gezichtspunt voor het scherm leek het eerste deel van het parcours vrij droog, terwijl het laatste deel, dat de finish naderde, modderiger leek. Toch bleef het snel en gevaarlijk, waarbij de wind het gedurende de race nog droger en sneller maakte.

Vooraan lagen Toon, Eli, Pim, Michael en Felipe aan de leiding terwijl Michael Boros zijn evenwicht op de balken verloor, wat leidde tot een tuimeling waarbij verschillende rijders betrokken waren, en waardoor Thibau Nys het meest werd getroffen. Gelukkig navigeerde Cameron soepel over het obstakel, waardoor hij verschillende posities kon opschuiven.

In een totaal van 8 rondes wist hij steeds naar voren op te schuiven en reed hij tijdens ronde 4 al op een 17e positie. 

Voorin was duidelijk dat het spannend zou blijven tot de laatste ronde, waar zeker nog zes rennens in aanmerking kwamen voor de overwinning. In de voorlaatste ronde leek het erop dat Eli met de overwinning aan de haal zou gaan, maar door enkele kleine foutjes in de laatste ronde wist teamgenoot Michael de koppositie over te nemen en zo als overwinnaar over de eindmeet te rijden, met in zijn kielzog op een tweede plaats Toon Aerts,  en Felipe Orts Lloret wist nog nipt Eli te weerhouden van het brons.

Cameron finishste uiteindelijk als 15e in een tijd van 1.42 

 

Achteraf konden we op zijn Instagram lezen: "Het was frustrerend op het WK in Dublin. Een lekke band in de eerste ronde zette me achteraan in het peloton. Vervolgens heb ik het grootste deel van de race besteed aan mijn eigen achtervolging. Mijn racetempo is momenteel vrij goed, wat positief is. Echter, het was niet voldoende om een plek in de top 10 te bemachtigen." 

"Zoals altijd, geweldige sfeer en publiek. Zoveel support. Bedankt iedereen! Nu op naar Spanje"

HERENTALS  X2O Badkamertrofee 14/12/2024

After two weekends of planned crosses in Ireland and Italy, of which the one in Italy unfortunately could not take place due to the stormy weather, we are back on Belgian soil today for the next round in the X2O bathroom trophy in Herentals on the domain of Sport Vlaanderen.

After the cross in Dublin, Cameron and his team left for warmer Spain for just under two weeks of training camp. So we were happy to see him live again and curious about his form, especially after two weeks of more pleasant temperatures.

At 3 p.m. sharp, the lights turned green and the 36 riders set off for 8 laps on a varied course around the skiberg. Local rider Toon Aerts immediately shot off like a rocket, quickly gaining a few seconds on the first pursuers. However, a flat tire soon hindered his progress, allowing Michael, Eli, Pim and Laurens to swiftly take the lead.

Cameron passed us in fifteenth place in a continuous group, so we believed that he would move to the front. However, in the second round we noticed that he had lost a few places and we could deduce from his facial expression that something was wrong. 

He would pass us one more time on lap three somewhere around 23rd place, but when we didn't see him again on lap four, we knew something wasn't right. We couldn't pick up anything in terms of information through the speakers, so it was clear that he had either given up, had equipment trouble or in the worst case had fallen and couldn't continue. We had to speculate.

Fortunately, we were able to read on his Instagram a few hours later:

"Did not finish X2O Herentals. I've picked up a virus since training camp and its taken it out of me. Need some time to rest and recover and get the benefit from training camp. I won't start tomorrow in Namen unfortunately. Back next weekend i hope." 

"Thanks for all the shouts and support on course today. And to Cyclocrossreds for their support."

"I know things are going to click again. Trusting the process."

I said "fortunately" because this allowed us to rule out the worst scenario, an injury. It is of course annoying for him, but if a virus takes hold of you, you have to undergo it and rest well and hope that it leaves your body soon. Let us hope that he recovers soon before the busy Christmas period begins.

In one thing we are certain; We also believe in the process and we are one hundred percent sure that we will soon see a top fit Cameron on the field again. We wish him a speedy recovery, our support will always be there!

The cross continued of course and it remained an exciting battle until the end. Until a few hundred meters from the finish line, three riders remained in the running for the overall victory. In the end, Michael managed to take the win ahead of Pim and Laurens.

Na twee weekends geplande crossen in Ierland en Italië, waarvan die in Italië door het stormweer helaas niet kon doorgaan zijn we vandaag terug op Belgische bodem voor de volgende manche in de X2O badkamertrofee in Herentals op het domein van Sport Vlaanderen.

Na de cross in Dublin vertrok Cameron met zijn ploeg naar het warmere Spanje voor een kleine twee weken stage. We waren dus blij hem terug live aan 't werk te zien en benieuwd naar zijn vormpeil, zeker na twee weekjes aangenamere tempiraturen.

Klokslag 15u sprongen de lichten op groen en vertrokken de 36 renners voor 8 rondes op een veelzijdig parcours rondom de skiberg. Toon Aerts, lokaal renner ging er meteen als een speer vandoor en wist al snel een aantal seconden voorsprong te nemen op eerste achtervolgers, doch een lekke band gooide al meteen roet in het eten en zo wisten Pim, Eli, Michael  en Laurens al snel de koppositie over te nemen.

Cameron passeerde ons als vijftiende in een aanééngesloten groepje waardoor we wel geloofden dat hij nog wel zou opschuiven naar voor. Echter in de tweede ronde merkten we dat hij nog enkele plaatsjes was kwijtgespeeld en konden we afleiden van zijn gezichtsuitdrukking dat er iets niet goed zat. 

Nog één keer zou hij ons voorbij rijden in ronde drie ergens rond de 23ste plaats, maar toen we hem in ronde vier niet meer zagen, wisten we dat er iets niet goed zat. Via de speakers konden we niet iets opvangen qua informatie, dus het was wel duidelijk dat hij  ofwel opgegeven had, materiaalpech had of in het ergste geval gevallen was en niet meer kon verder doen. We hadden er het raden na.

Gelukkig konden we enkele uurtjes later op zijn Instagram lezen:

" Did not finish X2O Herentals. I've picked up a virus since training camp and its taken it out of me. Need some time to rest and recover and get the benefit from training camp. I won't start tomorrow in Namen unfortunately. Back next weekend i hope." 

"Thanks for all the shouts and support on course today. And to Cyclocrossreds for their support."

"I know things are going to click again. Trusting the process."

 

Ik zei "gelukkig" omdat we hiermee het ergste scenario, een blessure, konden uitsluiten. Het is natuurlijk vervelend voor hem, maar als een virus je vat moet je het ondergaan en goed rusten en hopen dat het snel terug je lichaam verlaat. Laat ons hopen dat hij snel terug beter is voor de drukke Kerstperiode aanvat.

In één ding zijn we zeker; Ook wij geloven in het proces en we zijn honderd procent zeker dat we snel weer een topfitte Cameron in het veld gaan zien. Bij deze wensen we hem van harte beterschap, onze steun zal er altijd zijn!

de cross ging natuurlijk verder en tot het einde bleef het een spannende strijd. Tot enkele honderden meters van de eindstreep bleven er drie renners over die in de running bleven voor de eindzege. Uiteindelijk wist Michael de zege naar zich toe te trekken voor Pim en Laurens.

HULST World Cup 21/12/2024

 

Unfortunately, we could not attend the race in person, due to other commitments and we had to follow the race on TV. But we are proud of Cameron, who finished fifth on a treacherous, muddy course! His best performance so far this season, and that only promises the best for the upcoming races! This should give him a huge boost and confirms once again what we have known for a long time; Everything will be fine!!

Jammer genoeg konden we de wedstrijd niet persoonlijk bijwonen, wegens andere verplichtingen en moesten we de race via tv volgen. Maar we zijn trots op Cameron, die op een verradelijk, modderig parcour knap vijfde werd! Zijn beste prestatie tot nu toe dit seizoen, en dat belooft alleen maar het beste voor de komende wedstrijden! Dit moet hem een enorme boost geven en bevestigd nog maar eens wat wij al lang wisten; alles komt goed!!!

ZONHOVEN  World Cup 22/12/2024

Today we are guests in Zonhoven, known for its legendary "pit" and numerous sand obstacles throughout the course This event is one of our "homecrosses", along with Maasmechelen, due its proximity. Nevertheless, we arrived early today, as it could get very busy with the return of M. Van Poel to the field. As a result, we had the opportunity to watch the U23 and women's races.

During those races, the weather conditions were far from ideal, ranging from beautiful sunny cold periods to rain, sleet and hail. It was all present, but it's part of these dark, gloomy days before Christmas.

 

At 3:10 p.m., the starting signal was given for the 67 participants of the men's elite race. Naturally, we were very curious about how Cameron would perform. At the beginning of 2024, during the previous race held here, he unfortunately had to retire on lap 1.

The entire race was a demonstration from start to finish by Mathieu Van Der Poel, who immediately took the lead and never relinquished it. Far behind,Thibau Nys managed the chase throughout the race and finished second, 1:30 behind Mathieu. The battle for third place caused some tension during the race and eventually went to Joran Wyseure.

 

Cameron maintained a position between 15th and 20th throughout the race, ultimately finishing in 17th place. He rode a commendable race. his impressive fifth-place finish yesterday in the mud, (where he showcased his strong technique), his seventeenth-place finish in sandy conditions was a satisfactory result. Overall it was a successful weekend for Cameron.

Fortunately, the weather Gods were favorable during the cross, granted us an hour dry conditions and let us be able to fully enjoy the cross. However the weather shifted the way back to the car when the hail felt from the sky again. Nonetheless, this did not damp our spirits after such a wonderful weekend for Cameron.

Vandaag zijn we te gast in Zonhoven met zijn legendarische "kuil" en vele zandpartijen in het parcour. Het is voor ons, samen met Maasmechelen, één van de "thuiswedstrijden" omdat het tamelijk dichtbij is. Toch waren we al op tijd aanwezig, daar het vandaag wel eens tamelijk druk kon worden met de terugkeer van een zekere M. Van Der Poel , in het veld. En zo hadden we tijd om de wedstrijden van de U23 en de dames bij te wonen.

Tijdens die wedstrijden waren de weersomstandigheden alles behalve top, van mooie zonnige maar koude periodes naar regen, natte sneeuw en hagel... het was er allemaal, maar het hoort er een beetje bij tijdens deze donkere sombere dagen voor Kerst.

Om 15u10 werd het startsignaal gegeven voor de 67 deelnemers van de heren elite wedstrijd. We waren natuurlijk ontzettend benieuwd hoe het Cameron zou vergaan. Begin 2024, toen de vorige race hier plaatsvond moest hij jammer genoeg al in ronde 1 opgeven.

De hele race werd van 't begin tot het einde een demonstratie van Mathieu Van Der Poel, die meteen de koppositie innam en ze nooit meer zou prijsgeven. Ver daarachter nam Thibau Nys gedurende de race de achtervolging voor zijn rekening en eindigde als tweede op 1:30 van Mathieu. De derde plaats zorgde tijdens de wedstrijd nog voor een beetje spanning en ging uiteindelijk verdiend naar Joran Wyseure.

Cameron reed gedurende de hele cross tussen de 15de en 20ste positie, en haalde uiteindelijk de 17de plaats. Hij reed een heel solide wedstrijd. Na zijn prachtige vijfde plaats van gisteren in de modder (waarin hij altijd zijn sterke techniek kan tonen) was zijn zeventiende plaats in 't vele zand een goed resultaat waarmee hij zelf ook wel tevreden was. Al bij al een goed weekend voor Cameron!

Gelukkig waren de weergoden ons goed gezind tijdens de wedstrijd! een uurtje droog weer en ten volle kunnen genieten van de cross! Dat veranderde echter op de terugweg naar de auto toen de hagel weer uit de lucht viel. Maar dat kon ons niet deren na dit goed weekend voor Cameron!

GAVERE World Cup 26/12/2024

Today, on Boxing Day, we were guests in Gavere for another round of the World Cup. After a brisk ride of just under two hours, we arrived around 11:30 am, well in time as there were only two races planned: the women and the gentlemen elite.

Upon arriving at the location, we immediately realized that it was an extremely challenging course. Gavere is known for its difficulty, but the heavy rain over the past few days had exacerbated the conditions. This course seemed perfectly suited for Cameron.

 

At 3:10 pm, the 82 participants were prepared to allow the large audience to enjoy a beautiful cross. Cameron had start from the third starting line, so he passed us in 27th position on lap 1. However, we were confident that he would gain places quickly.

At front, four riders had quickly separated themselves, including, of course, Mathieu Van De Poel, along with Michael Vanthourenhout, Thibau Nys and Pim Ronhaar.

 

There were a total of seven laps, each lasting approximately nine minutes. We were fortunate to be near a LED-screen, allowing us to follow the entire race. For instance, we observed that by the third round, Cameron had advanced up to 18th place, and by the fourth lap, he had moved up to 11th place.

This is real cross for him and in all that mud he can fall back on his excellent technique! At the front, Mathieu had taken the lead and was soon about 25 seconds ahead of second in the race Michael.

In the penultimate lap Cameron had moved up to seventh position and eventually he had to give up one place in the last lap so he crossed the finish line in a nice 8th place!

Climbed from a 27th position in the first round to an 8th place in the final standings! We are very proud of his performance today, because everyone on the spot could see that it was not easy to achieve such a performance on this course. Another nice top 10 place in the World Cup!  Well done Cameron!

Vandaag, tweede Kerstdag, waren we te gast in Gavere, voor weer een manche van de Wereldbeker. Na een stevige rit van een kleine twee uur waren we rond 11u30 terplaatse, ruim op tijd daar er maar twee crossen gepland stonden. De dames en de heren elite.

Toen we ons naar onze plaats begaven konden we al meteen vaststellen dat het een heel zwaar parcour  was! Nu, dat is Gavere sowieso al, maar door de vele regen van de voorbije dagen was dat nog zachtjes uitgedrukt. Een parcour , Cameron op 't lijf geschreven.

Om 15u10 stonden de 82 deelnemers klaar om het massaal opgekomen publiek te laten genieten van een mooie cross. Cameron moest vertrekken van op startlijn 3 waardoor hij ons in ronde 1 op de 27ste positie passeerde. Maar we waren vol vertrouwen dat hij wel snel plaatsjes zou winnen. 

Voorin hadden zich al snel een viertal renners afgezonderd waaronder natuurlijk Mathieu Van Der Poel, samen met Michael Vanthourenhout, Thibau Nys en Pim Ronhaar.

Er zouden in totaal zeven ronden gecrosst worden, daar één ronde al snel negen minuten zou duren. We hadden geluk dat we vlakbij een ledscherm stonden en zo de hele cross goed konden volgen. Zo zagen we dat in ronde drie Cameron al opgeschoven was naar plek 18, en hij in de vierde ronde al op plek 11 vertoefde. 

Dit is voor hem echte cross en in al die modder kan hij terugvallen op zijn uitstekende techniek! Voorin Had Mathieu de leiding genomen en lag al snel een 25tal seconden voor op tweede in de race Michael.

In de voorlaatste ronde was Cameron doorgeschoven naar de zevende positie en uiteindelijk moest hij in de laatste ronde één plekje prijsgeven waardoor hij op een mooie 8ste plaats over de eindmeet reed!

Van een 27ste positie in de eerste ronde opgeklommen naar een 8ste plaats in de eindstand! we zijn ontzettend trots op zijn prestatie vandaag, want iedereen ter plekke kon vaststellen dat het niet evident was op op dit parcour zo'n prestatie neer te zetten. Weer een mooie top 10 plaats in de Wereldbeker!  Mooi gedaan Cameron!

DIEGEM Avondcross 30/12/2024

 

It was a refreshing change from usual end-year hustle and bustle, an evening cross event. Thankfully, we left early and arrived at the site around 4 pm to find a pleasant crowd. The program was busy, featuring juniors, ladies, men, and a turbocross with some well-known Flemish participants. In my opinion the turbocross did not add much but ofcourse was intended to enhance atmosphere.

 

The men's Elite race commenced at 8:30 PM, featuring a total of 78 participants at the starting line.

Whether was it due to the evening timing, the large crowd, or fact that it was the final of the year, the atmosphere was exceptionally vibrant and rarely. There was an incredible vibe!

 

Regarding the cross itself, I must admit that I not keep track of its course, partly due to the prevailing atmosphere. However, during the first round, most of the prominent names were at the front, along with the young Tibor Del Grosso. Cameron's start is typically not the fastest and he was fifteenth after the first lap, but we could see he enjoyed the course and ambiance of the audience.

 

It was our first time experiencing the cross in Diegem, which can be described as an urban cross, through fields and partly through the city. During the race, Laurens, Thibau, Tibor, Niels, and Eli formed a leading group, which joined by five more riders in the penultimate lap, leaving the race wide open. Cameron rode a solid race, adding some extra flair with his impressive jumps over the bridge, much to the crowd's delight, and rode just outside the top ten.

 

IIn the decisive final lap, there was tension at the front, with three candidates for the overall victory. Ultimately, Laurens Sweeck emerged victorious, ahead of Niels Vandeputte, who passed Thibau Nys just a few meters before the finish.

Cameron ultimately secured an 11th place, marking his best performance to date in Diegem. When we said goodbye at the bus, it was heartening to witness both young and older fans eager to take a photo with him or request his autograph

 

We returned home satisfied! With in the car the heating high due to the bitter cold, at least by my standards :-)  Once again, having the opportunity to witness a beautiful cross.

 

 

 

Het is eens iets anders een avondcross en een mooie afwisseling in deze drukke eindejaarsperiode. Gelukkig waren we tijdig vertrokken zodat we rond 16u aankwamen op het terrein en het er al een gezellige drukte bleek!  Het was ook een druk programma met de junioren, de dames, de heren en tussendoor nog een turbocross met enkele bekende vlamingen. Iets wat in mijn ogen niet veel voorstelde maar meer moest dienen om wat extra sfeer te brengen.

 

De heren Elite begonnen eraan om 20u30 met in totaal 78 crossers aan de startlijn.

Kwam het door het feit dat het een avondcross was, of door het enorm opgekomen publiek, het feit dat het de laatste cross was van 't jaar;; ik weet het niet, maar er was daar een sfeertje, nog niet vaak meegemaakt! Een geweldige vibe!

 

Dan de cross zelf; ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik het verloop van de cross niet zo heb bijgehouden, mede door de sfeer die er heerste. Maar tijdens de eerste ronde zaten de meeste grote namen tamelijk vooraan samen met youngster Tibor Del Grosso. Cameron's start is meestal niet de allersnelste en hij reed na de eerste ronde zowat in vijftiende positie. Maar je kon zien dat hij genoot van het parcour en de ambiance van het publiek.

 

Het was onze eerste keer dat we de cross in Diegem meemaakten en je kan het een urbancross noemen, gedeeltelijk veld, gedeeltelijk door de stad. Gedurende de cross hadden zich Laurens, Thibau, Tibor, Niels en Eli  een kopgroepje gevormd waar in de voorlaatste ronde zich nog een vijftal renners bijvoegden waardoor de wedstrijd weer helemaal open lag. Cameron reed een solide wedstrijd en zorgde voor wat extra show door zijn mooie jumps op de brug, tot grote vreugde van het publiek en reed net buiten de top 10.

 

In de beslissende laatste ronde was het voorin spanning ten top, met uiteindelijk drie kandidaten voor de eindoverwinning. Die ging uiteindelijk welverdiend naar Laurens Sweeck, voor Niels Vandeputte die enkele meters voor de streep nog voorbij Thibau Nys reed.

Cameron finishte uiteindelijk op een mooie 11de plaats, zijn beste resultaat so far in Diegem! even gedag gezegd aan de bus en mooi om te zien hoe jonge en minder jonge fans met hem op de foto wilden of zijn handtekening vroegen.

En wij tevreden naar de auto richting huiswaarts, met de verwarming hoog, want het was wel bitterkoud, toch naar mijn normen :-)  met weer een mooie cross op de teller.
